Six distinct biological communities provide habitat for dozens of bird species, including bald eagles. Cayo Anclote is an excellent swimming area and is perfect for nature study. The island is accessible by boat, but you can take one at the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs.

This park is bordered by sandy shores and rocky shores alike. Wildlife is abundant, and two birding areas and nature trails offer plenty of opportunities to see ospreys and other species native to Florida. Sunbathing, shell collecting, swimming, fishing and picnicking are also frequent activities in this park.

Other native peoples from Alabama and Georgia moved to Florida in the 18th century. They were of varied origin, but Europeans called them all “Creek.” In Florida, they were known as the Seminole and Miccosukee Indians. By the 1990s there were very high downtown vacancy rates and serious levels of urban blight.
