All three members of Saint Etienne hail from the East London counties. Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs come from Reigate in the county of Surrey and singer Sarah Cracknell from Old Windsor; not too far from the city, but far enough away. They grew up in a traditional environment that has enabled them to tell stories about those places and turn them into a reference of English pop.
Saint Etienne continues to grow in “Home Counties”, a reaffirmation of fundamental values, a complete return to their own sound and to the group’s compositional work method that captivated so many fans in the early 90s.

Our recommendation today is not suitable for claustrophobics or those who continue to escape from enclosed places after confinement. If you love nature and fresh air, going underground to discover places may not be the most appealing thing in the world, but you should also take a look at what’s hidden under the ground. Mostly near London, there is a whole subway world to discover: seven English caves to get lost in.
Natural caves, hidden in private properties, follies built by poets or escape routes of plant labyrinths. In England there is a whole world underground that is just as fascinating as above, with stories and a very interesting past.
The origin of the mysterious Shell Grotto of Margate is an unknown. It was discovered in 1835 and more than four million shells were found embedded in its walls, but there is a lot of myth surrounding the discovery and the exact date. They are mainly mussel, oyster, cockle, razor and limpet shells, almost all native to the British Isles, although some queen shells from the Caribbean have been found.
