History of hearing aids
Our daily work revolves around it, so it is essential to have a perfect knowledge of its characteristics and operation. Just as there are many forms of hearing loss, there are several types of hearing aids; but they all share the same function: to be electronic devices that amplify and change sound to allow better communication.
We want to make clear what the basic components of a current digital hearing aid are and how they work. Later, in the following editions of the magazine, we will explain one of its components in more detail.
The Real Academia de la Lengua (RAE) defines it very well. It is an “apparatus that transforms sound waves into electrical currents for amplification”, so this part is the main element of the hearing aid. Technically it is called input transducer, and its good or bad functioning will greatly influence the quality of the sound that our patient receives. On the other hand, there are several types of input transducers, such as electromagnetic microphones, electret microphones, etc….
What are headphones for?
Are you ready to improve your hearing but don’t know which type of hearing aid is best for you? You’ve come to the right place! This guide explains the basics about the types of hearing aids and the factors you should consider when choosing your hearing aids.
There are many models of in-the-ear hearing aids. They are worn directly in the ear and, to ensure maximum comfort and sound quality, it is important that they are properly fitted. In-the-ear hearing aids are custom-made to fit your ears perfectly.
This type of hearing aid is sleeker and slimmer than older, more traditional models, making them excellent for people with less mobility or vision problems. Although they are still very discreet, they are not invisible but they are powerful.
Selecting the right type of hearing aid can be tricky. There are several factors to consider, and it is always best to get expert advice. A hearing care audiologist has extensive knowledge of the different types of hearing loss and can recommend the best type of hearing aids for your hearing loss and your individual needs.
How bluetooth headphones work
Nowadays, technology is so advanced that we can find headsets to suit virtually every need we may have. We have them, wired, wireless, clip-on, behind the neck, earpiece or button, external…
Remember that by taking not only your headphones, but all your electronic devices to the clean point, we prevent them from accumulating in landfills. This can have several consequences: on the one hand, waste can end up releasing toxic or highly polluting liquids and gases. On the other hand, we will not pollute the soil, and we will also save a lot of energy and raw materials.
Old hearing aids
Deaf people need a hearing aid to correct their hearing deficit. But there are people with limited resources who require financial assistance to acquire a hearing aid. At Audifon we have created a hearing aid donation plan so that you can bring the ones you can no longer use and others can. This way, you can help hearing impaired people to improve their hearing by donating your old hearing aids. A very important help and another way to recycle old devices.
If we are used to donating our prescription glasses when they are no longer useful or when we want to buy new ones, hearing aids can also be recycled. And how can you do that? Just bring your old hearing aids to any of our hearing centers and you can help other deaf people.
At the Fundación Obra Social Audifón we have activated this hearing aid donation plan. In addition to collecting and selecting the hearing aids that arrive at our offices, we also continue to donate devices to ONCE members who need a hearing aid to hear better. A fundamental support for deafblind people to improve their quality of life.
